Mold and Moisture

The Facts about Mold

Like dust and pollen, mold spores are ever-present throughout our environment. Mold is a fungus that can grow in just about any environment that is wet and warm. The way to prevent mold growth indoors is to prevent water intrusion and maintain proper humidity levels inside buildings.

GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation is cellulosic material, as are the majority of building materials available today, including 2x4s, drywall and kraft-faced batts. If a material is made from wood, cotton or other natural materials, it contains cellulose. Trying to eliminate cellulose in construction materials would be impossible and unnecessary.

When properly installed and maintained, GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation will not promote mold growth. In some instances, the product may be applied with limited amounts of moisture. In that respect, it is not much different from other materials - such as paint, caulk and cement - that are applied wet and set as they dry. In addition, GreenFiber Cocoon Insulation meets ASTM C-739, the industry standard for fungal resistance established by the American Society for Testing and Materials.
